HEF – Human-Etiska Föreningen
or, in English:
"Human-Ethical Association" is a Swedish association, which started as a local group of humanists and atheists.
It was situated in the city of Västerås. (Before the year of 2000 with the additional "in Västerås"
and shortened: HEF-V.) It is open to everybody understanding Swedish. In 2000 we became a nationwide organisation and also
a member of the IHEU. The English term Humanism in the sense of a lifestance as propagated by the IHEU is usually
translated to Swedish as "secular humanism" or "ethical humanism" for linguistical reasons.
See also: Explanation, or: Humanism.
HEF promotes the humanist "Minimum Statement", and has decided to accept the
IHEU-Statement from 1965 What ethical humanism stands for.
HEF works for getting the people of Sweden to think and act more scientifically, human-mindedly and non-religiously.
HEF is a politically free and unbound association,
and of course in favour of democratic values as freedom of speach and against nazism, rasism, and fascism.
